The Seeing Eye
Over three thousand years ago the Phoenician alphabet was created, the sixteenth letter of which was ‘o’, a perfect circle known as ‘ayin, or ‘eye’, representing the human eye. Despite the long history, the letter has remained visually consistent, becoming the basis for Greek, Latin and Cyrillic letters. The perfect circle of the letter ‘o’ symbolises continuity, the cyclical nature of time and one of the tools we use to sense it – the eye. Of course, these tools are not perfect, but perhaps that is what makes them special, and my imperfections here are bright and vivid.
